They are available only in the conventional orange colour and in double barrel design. A single piece tile weighs from 2.5 kg to 2.75 kg. They absorb water and thus gains more weight. The main advantage of clay tiles is that they don't absorb heat so fast as the clay is so porous that they absorb rain water which gives a cooling effect to the house.

ii. Ceramic Roof Tiles

    Ceramic tiles are not manufactured in Kerala. These tiles are imported from foreign countries. They are made using Chinese clay, red clay or white clay mixed with ceramic clay. Ceramic tiles made using white clay are the best. Ceramic tiles are mostly imported from China and Spain (Spanish roofing tiles) are the most widely seen in our market. Ceramic tiles normally comes in 1 sqft size. They are also available in larger sizes in our market. 

Whereas ceramic tiles are available in various colours; there are double coloured, ocean blue, pool green colours. They are also available in matt and glossy finish. They weighs about 2.5 kilograms and their breakage is less compared to traditional clay tiles. But they absorb heat fast. Ceramic tiles are available from 50/- rupees in the market. Nano roofing tiles or MFP roofing tiles are the trending roofing solution now. The main advantage of Nano roofing tiles is that they are very light. These tiles weigh only around 400 grams which is even less than the weight of Roofing Shingles. These are made of  Nano Ceramic (Minerals) Filled Polymer using nano  technology which makes it really strong and durable without colour fading.
